An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member alerted the police about his concerns.

She said the man continued to play the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member called the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
